FAQ - the most important questions about mobile phone baiting

What is cell phone baiting?
The mobile bait is a barrel equipped with an electric conveyor and a transmitter unit. When given a specific command via smartphone (app, browser or sms) or PC (browser), the mobile bait dispenses the desired amount of bait. You can also check the fill level and battery level.
How is the bait delivered?
Following the command (app, browser or sms), the bait falls vertically out of the barrel in the middle within the next (maximum) 15 minutes. The bait is therefore not scattered or otherwise distributed over the surface. To prevent game other than wild boar from ingesting the bait, the so-called bait funnel can be mounted under the mobile bait. This is available separately in the shop and costs €29. Only sows can lift it, so other game cannot reach the bait. The transparent tube of the funnel also allows you to see on the game camera whether and how much bait is currently being offered. The bait funnel holds exactly the amount of 1 kg of corn permitted in most federal states.
Is the use of mobile phone baiting permitted in my state in Germany?
The legal admissibility of using mobile bait depends on the respective state regulations. In addition, the general regulations on baiting and feeding must be observed (quantity, number of bait stations, etc.). To provide an overview, we would like to comment on the legal situation in the respective federal states of Germany in bullet points:
- Baden-Württemberg : 1 feeding station/50 ha; max. 1 litre per feeding station at the same time = mobile feeding permitted
- Bavaria : minimum possible size: 1 feeding station/100 ha; max. approx. 1 kg per feeding station at the same time = mobile feeding permitted
- Berlin : Mobile phone baiting permitted
- Brandenburg : only "small quantity" (not further defined, probably at least 1 litre) per feeding station at the same time = mobile feeding permitted
- Bremen : From 01.05.-15.10. only occasional baiting allowed; otherwise no regulations = mobile baiting permitted
- Hamburg : Mobile phone baiting permitted
- Hesse : 1 litre/day; bait must not be accessible to other game ( bait funnel ) = mobile bait permitted
- Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania : "occasional baiting" permitted; max. 3 kg per bait at a time = mobile baiting permitted
- Lower Saxony : Use of feeding facilities and containers for baiting prohibited = mobile baiting not permitted
- North Rhine-Westphalia : all feeding devices and feeding machines are prohibited; mobile feeding devices (if used appropriately) comply with quantity specifications in contrast to pendulum sow drums and spreaders = mobile feeding devices are prohibited , but the violation is less severe than with conventional feeding devices and feeding machines
- Rhineland-Palatinate : calling requires a permit; only calling by hand is permitted; a (very controversial) amendment to the state hunting law is currently being made, outcome unclear = calling by mobile phone is (currently) not permitted
- Saarland : Feeding machines allowed up to 700g/day = mobile feeding permitted
- Saxony : max. 5 kg per feeding station at the same time = mobile feeding permitted
- Saxony-Anhalt : "simple mechanical device" ( LJV Saxony-Anhalt speaks of automatic feeders) may have a capacity of max. 5 kg = mobile phone baiting is rather inadmissible (however, reduction of the capacity is conceivable)
- Schleswig-Holstein : "occasional luring" permitted; bait must not be accessible to other game ( bait funnel ) = mobile baiting permitted
- Thuringia : Bait material may only be presented again if previously presented bait material has been completely consumed by the game; max. 1 kg of grain may be presented at a time; technical equipment is permitted if it is suitable for limiting the amount of bait accordingly = mobile bait is permitted
Feeding game is different from baiting. In most federal states of Germany, feeding is only permitted in times of need and under special conditions. The use of mobile baiting for feeding is therefore subject to strict regulations, which should be checked in the respective federal state. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions about the legal situation in your federal state of Germany.
How do I control the mobile bait station?
The mobile bait station can be controlled from the smartphone via app, SMS or in the browser, as well as from the PC in the browser. You can set the duration of the bait delivery (up to 99 seconds per bait = approx. 1 liter of corn), decide when the bait should be delivered (immediately or at a later time) and set whether the bait should be delivered daily or just once. After giving the bait command "bait immediately", it can take up to (maximum) 15 minutes until the bait is delivered. You can find out more about controlling the mobile bait here on the page under " The app " and under " Operation ".
Is the app available for Android and Apple?
Yes, you can find the app under the name "Handykirrung" in both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
How do you install the mobile bait in the hunting area?
There are two main ways to mount the mobile phone bait: hanging freely from a branch/frame or on the side of a tree. A pulley and two tensioning straps are included in the delivery. Both mounting methods are tried and tested and are discussed in the operating instructions and shown on this website.
Can you also have the birds baited regularly?
Yes, mobile baiting makes it possible to bait at any time, for example exactly when the sows were on camera or are currently there. But you can also set a regular time for baiting. In both cases, the amount can also be freely determined.
Are there additional costs for mobile communications during ongoing operations?
No, there are no additional running costs in data mode. The mobile phone bait is delivered with an IoT SIM card. When used via app or SMS, the €10 credit provided is used up very slowly (years). The card can then be topped up or replaced with any standard PIN-free SIM card. In data mode (control via app or browser), there are no additional costs for controlling the mobile phone bait. However, when controlled via SMS, there are additional costs for sending SMS to the IoT SIM of a maximum of 6 cents per SMS. In SMS mode, there is a cost of 6 cents per bait command; in data mode (app or browser), there are no costs. However, anyone who exchanges the IoT SIM for a standard German SIM card can use their SMS flat rate and no longer pays the 6 cents.
Where does the cell phone bait get its power from?
The mobile phone bait is powered by standard AA batteries (Mignon). 8 or 16 batteries can be inserted. With 16 batteries, the mobile phone bait works for an average of around 3 months.
For which bait is the mobile bait suitable?
The mobile bait is suitable for corn, wheat and similar (dry) grains.
